Looking after your post-holiday skin

It’s official: summer is over. As leaves turn brown. The evenings become darker, many may miss the heat on their skin and yearn for more time on the beach.

However, giving your skin a break from the sun is no bad thing. Many of us equate holidays with clear skin and a darker complexion. What’s happening under the surface isn’t quite so pretty.

Whilst the sun, sea, and sand do have their health benefits. Your skin loses water and oil when it is not adequately protected, and many will experience blocked pores after too much sun exposure as well.

Dehydrated skin

Dehydrated skin, caused by too much exposure to the sun, will impact your skin’s elasticity. Increase the chance of fine lines and wrinkles. Sometimes this can take a while to show up, but sometimes it is immediately obvious.

We can burn or even peel if we don’t take the necessary precautions when out in the sun. Nature has its own remedy for burning or peeling; Aloe Vera is a natural healer. So using an Aloe-based moisturizer may help to soothe your skin and reduce any discomfort you experience after a day in the sun.

Thankfully, we now all know that it is imperative to use an SPF lotion in the sunshine. But there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to skincare. It’s really important that the sun cream you are using matches your skin type. The paler your skin the higher the SPF should be.

Now the summer is behind us, taking good care of your post-holiday skin has never been so important. As we enter cooler months and turn our heatings on. Many of us will find our skin drying out even more. Now is the time to ensure you’re moisturizing your skin properly, and drinking plenty of water to keep it hydrated.

Dry skin

Defy Time

Dry skin is different from dehydrated skin. That it is caused by a lack of oil in the skin, as opposed to a lack of water. This can be exacerbated by exposing your skin to air conditioning, or by switching from a cold to a hot climate, and back again.

Once you’re home from your holiday, moisturizing should become a daily ritual. It will not only help to correct oil levels in the skin but will also lock in that tan. A moisturizer such as Defy Time will also help to keep wrinkles at bay by actually blocking neuromuscular contraction.

This pioneering cream includes Syn-ake. An anti-wrinkle peptide that mimics the paralyzing effect of a peptide found in the venom of the Brazilian Templar Viper. Results are quick too. Clinical trials have shown wrinkles to be reduced by 52% and skin smoothness increased by 80% after just 28 days of use.

Blocked pores

Irritated skin can be caused by blocked pores. Which come about thanks to excess oil in the skin, lack of sleep, or even particular types of suntan lotion.

Once back on home soil. Post-holiday blocked pores can be combated by using an effective cleanser that is gentle on the skin. Oxypeel Treatment Cream helps to regulate the skin’s oil and moisture balance and discourages microbial growth. It is particularly suitable for oily skin and can be used both as a day and night cream.

Your skin is something worth investing in. All too often people try to combat post-holiday skincare issues by using harsh chemicals. Which can cause bigger problems in the long term.

Adopting a gentler, more organic skincare regime is the best way to care for your post-holiday skin. And the range of non-invasive treatments available at the Face and Body Clinic means you can do just that, without worrying about any negative side effects.
